2006년 5월 16일, 레이 리베라(Rey Rivera) 씨는 한 통의 전화를 받고 집을 나섰는데요.

 

이후, 그가 돌아오지 않자 가족들은 경찰에 실종신고를 했습니다.

 

그의 고등학교 동창이자 함께 일하던 동업자 포터 스탠스베리(Porter Stansberry)는 현상금 1000달러를 내걸며 친구 레이의 귀환을 애타게 기다렸습니다.

 

그리고, 그 해 5월 24일, 어느 호텔과 주차장 사이에 있는 한 저층건물 옥상에서 무언가가 추락하면서 뚫린 듯한 수상한 구멍이 발견되었는데요.

 

그리고, 그 구멍 아래 건물에서 가족들이 그토록 애타게 찾던 레이가 처참한 모습으로 발견되었습니다.

높은 곳에서 뛰어내려서 극단적인 선택을 한 것인지 의심을 할 수 밖에 없는데요.

 

볼티모어 경찰 측 역시 정황상 레이의 자살을 의심했습니다.

 

그런데 말입니다.

 

그 호텔 고층 옥상에서 구멍이 난 건물 까지의 수평 거리는 무려 14미터였는데요.

 

그 정도의 거리면 레이가 호텔옥상에서 있는 힘껏 달려서 뛰어내렸다고 해도 구멍의 위치에 도달하기가 어려운 위치였습니다.

 

심지어 그 당시의 레이의 담당 검시관 역시 사건 정황이 불확실하다며 해당 사건을 미결로 결론지었다고 합니다.

 

스스로 떨어졌든 누가 던졌든 둘 다 불가능한 추락지점인 것입니다.

 

또 다른 의문점은, 그의 휴대폰과 안경은 긁힌 자국 하나 없이 멀쩡한 상태로 발견되었고, 정말 모든 것이 잘 짜여진 각본처럼 그 호텔 옥상 CCTV까지 고장난 상태였는데요.

 

그러니까, 레이가 그 호텔에서 추락했다는 증거, 목격자, 이런 모든 것들을 포함해서 그 어떤 증거도 발견되지 않았다고 합니다.

 

그렇다면, 혹시 그 건물에서 먼저 누가 레이를 죽여놓고 추락사로 만들기 위해서 그 건물위에 구멍을 내려고 높은 곳에서 무거운 무엇을 던졌던 것은 아닐까도 의심이 됩니다.

 

그런데, 레이의 시신이 발견된 후 그의 가족들이 지목한 유력한 용의자가 있었으니, 그는 다름아닌 레이의 친구이자 동업자였던 포터 스탠스베리(Porter Stansberry)!!

 

가족들이 포터를 용의자로 의심한 이유는, 아까 가족들이 레이가 전화를 받고 집을 나섰다고 했는데 레이와 마지막 통화를 한 전화번호가 포터가 운영하는 회사의 내선번호였고, 레이 시신 발견 이후 포터는 회사 직원들에게 레이와 관련해 함구 명령을 내렸다고 합니다.

 

그리고, 포터는 경찰조사와 각종 인터뷰에 적극적으로 참여하지 않은 것으로 밝혀졌습니다.

과연, 레이 리베라(Rey Rivera)의 죽음은 자살일까요? 타살일까요?

On May 24, 2006, Allison, a woman in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, received a phone call from the police saying, "I have found Mr. Rey Rivera."...

 

Her husband, freelance videographer Rey Rivera, who went missing eight days ago, was found dead.

 

On May 16, 2006, Rey Rivera left the house after receiving a phone call.

 

Later, when he did not return, his family reported him missing to the police.

 

His high school classmate and co-worker, Porter Stansberry, offered a $1,000 bounty, eagerly awaiting the return of his friend Ray.

 

And, on May 24 of that year, a mysterious hole was found that looked like something had fallen on the roof of a low-rise building between a hotel and a parking lot.

 

Then, in the building beneath the hole, Rey, whom the family had been looking for so desperately, was found in a miserable state.

 

I can't help but doubt whether he made an extreme choice by jumping from a high place.

 

The Baltimore Police Department also suspected Ray's suicide.

 

But that's it.

 

The horizontal distance from the high-rise roof of the hotel to the building with the hole was a whopping 14 meters.

 

At that distance, even if Ray ran as hard as he could on the roof of the hotel and jumped off, it was difficult to reach the location of the hole.

 

Even the coroner in charge of Ray at the time said that the circumstances of the case were uncertain and the case was closed.
